The Village of Bois-Joli is committed to protecting personal information.
All personal information collected by the Village is handled in accordance with the provisions of the Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA).
When providing municipal services and programs involving the collection, use, or disclosure of personal health information, the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act (PHIPAA) applies.

What personal information does the village collect?

Here are some examples of personal information that may be collected by the Village:

For what purposes does the Village collect my personal information?

In all cases, the personal information collected from you may only be used to deliver services on behalf of the Village and to communicate with you regarding services you have requested. For example, personal information must be collected for billing purposes related to water supply services, wastewater treatment services, and fire and emergency services, as well as for processing registrations or applications for recreational programs and services, and for responding to questions or customer service requests.

The Village may also collect personal information in order to:

  • Verify your identity or your eligibility for a program

  • Process invoices and payments for programs and services, and recover unpaid amounts

  • Provide first responder care during sports, recreational, or other activities

  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements

  • Provide emergency and fire protection services (which may require the Village to collect personal health information, including a person’s physical or mental condition)

  • Carry out law enforcement activities, such as issuing fines or enforcing other municipal by-laws

  • Enhance public safety or improve customer service through the use of video surveillance

  • Contact you to inform you about new Village services, upcoming events, or other relevant matters, or to request your feedback about our services, when you have given the Village permission to contact you using the contact information you provided (e.g., your email address)

  • Ensure the ongoing management and administration of employees and employee programs, in the case of employee personal information

 

How can my personal information be used or disclosed?

The Village considers all personal information to be confidential.
No personal information is sold or rented to other organizations by the Village. Your personal information is not disclosed to third parties without your consent, unless its disclosure is required by law, a court order, a subpoena, or as part of legal proceedings.

In other limited cases, in accordance with the law, the Village may disclose your personal information:

  • To companies contracted to provide services for or on behalf of the Village

  • To determine or recover an amount owed to the Village

  • To assess your eligibility or suitability for a program, service, or benefit offered by the Village

  • To provide health care services, such as when your health information must be shared confidentially with other health care providers at the scene of an emergency to ensure continuity of care

How is my personal information protected?

The Village of Bois-Joli takes numerous precautions to protect personal information from loss, theft, and misuse, as well as from unauthorized collection, disclosure, destruction, and access. These measures include various physical, technical, and administrative safeguards.

 

How can I access my personal information held by the Village?

You have the right to submit a written request to review or receive a copy of the information held about you. You may also request in writing that your record be corrected if you believe it is inaccurate.
You also have the right to provide written consent allowing another person, such as a parent or legal representative, to access your information.

 

Third-party services

The Village’s website uses YouTube and the YouTube API to retrieve videos from its YouTube channel.
As such, use of the website is subject to YouTube’s Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms), including provisions that allow third parties to display content and advertisements on the Village’s website. The YouTube API service stores, accesses, or collects (or allows third parties to do so) information directly or indirectly from visitors’ devices and browsers, including by placing, accessing, or recognizing cookies or similar technologies on those devices or browsers.

The YouTube API also collects analytics and reporting data, such as the number of views for a video, the number of channels for a subscriber, or the number of videos in a playlist. Google may use this data in accordance with its Privacy Policy, available at: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy
